How many singles wallow in self-pity because their relationship status does not say, "taken", "engaged", or "happily married"? Have you been there? Do you ever feel that slight twinge of jealousy when yet another of your friends announce their engagement?
How many God-given opportunities have been shoved aside because one is too busy scanning the horizon for their 'significant other'?
We live in a world where society has written its own self-indulging rules of happiness and true love. The shattered pieces of countless hearts lay scattered in the dust of rejection, dissatisfaction, and emptiness. Many are left wondering about the true purpose of life.
Can true love be found?
Will I ever find satisfaction for my soul?
Why can't this void be filled?
What a sad picture of countless souls that remain empty after a continual search for true love!
Yet, what hope can be offered to a generation that knows only of the unsuccessful trials of dating?
Has there been a challenge for such a generation to rise up against the forceful pressure to 'enjoy now, regret later'?
If the modern-day means of finding love is so unsuccessful then what hope have we?
Our hope is found in the Supplier of our every need.
Our satisfaction is found in our contentment of the riches He supplies.
But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus. – Philippians 4:19
A Satisfied Single
The common cry of the soul of a single individual bursts forth from the desire of a dissatisfied heart. For example, the longing for a companion is not met at the desired time. Or perhaps the desire for a certain position is not achieved.
A major source of the unhappiness among singles is discontentment in their current situation and circumstances. For that reason, they are blind to the endless opportunities and possibilities to be used greatly by God as well as to the current blessings being poured upon them.
I wait for the Lord , my soul doth wait, and in his word do I hope.
- Psalms 130:5
The key to satisfaction is the distinction of need and want as well as God’s will and our human desire.
· God’s will is stedfast and sure
· Our desires shift with every turn of events
Our emotions can change with the slightest wind of circumstance, but God’s will ALWAYS remain sure. The satisfaction of the soul will never be met by a companion. That seems to be the mindset of so many young men and women when they reach marriageable age. They often fail to realize that life does indeed go on after marriage, and in many ways it becomes harder. Satisfaction is then sought in marriage.
How often must we be reminded that man is fallible? We can never completely fulfill the desire of another. We fall short of truly satisfying another's every desire.
We must always remember that our God is infallible. Many times it is the lesson of a lifetime to realize that we can only be truly and completely content in God and God alone. The seeking single will never be satisfied until the wise words of Solomon becomes the cry of his heart and soul.
Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
- Proverbs 3:5, 6
A Soaring Single
Regardless of their status, the human heart seeks for satisfaction in many areas and in several ways. Through Heaven's perspective, they will never fly on the arm of success until they reach the point of soaring on the wings of contentment in Christ. As Christians we should recognize that He IS all we need.
But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles... - Isaiah 40:31
If you long to do the work of the Lord settle for flying single when you can SOAR! Yes, soar solo if you must, but do it with your best effort and all of your might.
Don't think that God is punishing you by not revealing the love of your life when you want it and the way you want it, but use that period of your life to allow God to mold you.
That shaping process takes a while longer when we insist on having our way, and many times He has to use drastic measures to open our blind eyes to the wonderful work He has awaiting us.
God wants to use you NOW!
If you're not content in doing such a glorious work now, do you really think satisfaction will flood your soul when marriage does take place, children fill your home, and your responsibilities mount up?! I believe God looks on with joy when He sees the single Christian soar with the satisfaction of walking in His will.
If we, as Christians, truly longed to be Christ's servants then we would look for any way to serve.
The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord. - Psalm 37:23
